Lost at Sea

lost at sea

Throughout all of literature, one of the most terrifying situations a man could be placed in is to be lost at sea. Through classics like Homer’s Iliad, to modern fictional novels, and countless historical accounts; men trapped on a ship at sea has been the setting for many stories of terror and loss. Few things symbolize that feeling in life where you feel helpless and out of control than being at the mercy of the sea. Yet this analogy accurately describes the state of most of the men in the world today. Captains of their own ship and lost at sea.

A ship lost at sea is at the mercy of the wind and waves. Whether it is lost, damaged or in the midst of the storm, this ship and all those on it have no direction. Have you ever felt like that? Lost, powerless to steer your life, at the mercy of the culture around you? Perhaps you just feel adrift and stagnant in life. Nothing feels more helpless than you have lost control of your life. It is a dark and desperate place to be.

The truth is that we were never meant to operate that way! We were created with a direct link to the most accurate and reliable navigation system there could ever be. But when the fall of man took place in the Garden of Eden, that connection was lost and man was set adrift. Not even the Professor from Gilligan’s Island could finagle up a contraption to restore that signal.

God never intended us to operate without a direct link to him. Adam regularly walked with God in the garden, he had full access to all the information and guidance he could ever hope for. God’s whole plan was for a man to stay in fulltime direct contact with him. Man was to never have to guess or wander aimlessly; he was to travel deliberately and accurately at God’s guidance.

There is good news for all my fellow captains! God has made a way for us to reconnect to his guidance systems. We no longer have to guess our next move or hope for the best. All the information, wisdom, guidance, and know how is fully available to us. God has restored a way to regain that which he intended when he created Adam. He has given us the tools we need to avoid the storms, keep from crashing on the rocks, and not have to wander aimlessly not knowing where to go.

And here is the cool part; we don’t have to make the journey alone. Restoring Adam was created out of the passion to reconnect to God’s original purpose for men, and to do it together. These writings are intended to be an interactive tool to help us rediscover God’s will and mission. Pack your bag and raise the anchor, let’s get this journey started!
